How Exitmargin works

Bring it together.
Keep the record.

A manual financial journal, from your first holding to a position you can return to.

01 / Add what you own and owe

Start with one holding.

Add a name, category, starting month, and balance. An asset is something you own; a liability is something you owe. The journal combines them into your financial position.

Use a built-in category or create your own in More. New journals suggest a currency from your browser’s language-region setting. Check it before entering balances. Existing journals keep their saved currency; amounts are never converted automatically.

For a synthetic example, add savings of 100,000 and a loan of 20,000 in one currency. Assets are 100,000, liabilities are 20,000, and net worth is 80,000. Initial holding values also create or update a checkpoint from their starting month.

Start with the net worth calculator to check a one-date total, then review the balances before adding them to the journal. Use the India calculator for separate FD, EPF, PPF, and NPS fields.

02 / Review balances

Check the numbers, then confirm.

From Home, choose Record checkpoint or Update checkpoint. Confirm the month, balances, and included holdings. Review the proposed save before confirming it.

Suppose savings later become 110,000 and the loan falls to 18,000. Net worth becomes 92,000: 10,000 more assets and 2,000 less debt. The comparison does not claim that the whole change was an investment return.

03 / Return to the record

Let the dates tell the story.

Journal lists saved months with the balances and holding names recorded for each checkpoint. Open a month to see its assets and liabilities. Correct a checkpoint when you need to; review changes before saving.

You do not need to record every month. Missing months stay empty. A dotted chart connection across a gap does not represent recorded balances between the saved dates.

Prefer a file? Use the net worth worksheet to keep checked totals as dated values. The spreadsheet and journal are separate records; the worksheet is not an app import.

04 / Keep your own copy

A backup you control.

Download a backup from More. It contains the journal’s holdings, checkpoint history, custom categories, and currency. Import it in another browser to move your records. Review the replacement first: import replaces that browser’s journal.

Records and backups are not encrypted by Exitmargin. Browser data can be lost or cleared. There is no automatic bank update, cloud backup, or device sync.

What the current app does not do

Exitmargin does not track every transaction, calculate a full investment return, give financial recommendations, or connect to banks. The current rebuild keeps balance checkpoints. A separate decision journal and the full guided Review flow are product goals, not current features.

Use it beside the spreadsheet, statement, or account app that already serves you.
