A useful starting point

Your net worth, in the US.
Without connecting a thing.

Bring your 401(k), IRA, brokerage, vested shares, property, and debt together. Start in USD and use balances for one date. No account or bank connection is required.

Start calculating

Use current balances, once each.

Use current vested retirement balances, not projected retirement income or unvested employer contributions. Count traditional and Roth balances once. These are account values before any future withdrawal taxes; the calculator does not estimate tax or money available to spend.

A brokerage total already includes its investments and cash. Enter employer shares separately only when they are not in that total. Use gross property value and separate mortgage debt. Student loans use the current outstanding balance, not a possible future forgiveness amount.

Currency

One currency for all balances. Amounts are not converted.

Blank fields are omitted. Enter 0 for a confirmed zero balance. Use up to 3 decimal places. Plain digits and comma groups such as 1,00,000 or 100,000 are accepted.

What you own Assets

Checking, savings, and deposit balances outside the accounts below.

Current vested balance, including any Roth portion. Exclude unvested employer contributions.

Current traditional and Roth IRA balances. Do not also count their investments below.

Vested account balances outside 401(k)s and IRAs, such as 403(b)s. Exclude future pension income.

Current account value, including its cash. Exclude retirement accounts and shares entered separately.

Shares you own and still hold, outside brokerage totals already entered. Exclude unvested awards.

Your ownership share of current value before the mortgage. Enter the mortgage separately.

Vehicles, bonds, business & other assets

Optional. Count each asset in one field or named row only. Collapsing this section keeps entered values in the total.

Your ownership share of current resale value. Enter vehicle debt separately.

Current value of bonds not already included in an investment account total.

A supportable current estimate of your ownership interest. Do not also count its underlying assets.

Assets not counted in another field or named row. Use your ownership share and the selected currency.

Named asset rows

Keep up to 20 separate holdings. These use the Other Asset journal category. Leave a new row entirely blank to omit it.

What you owe Liabilities

Outstanding mortgage and HELOC balances, not monthly payments or unused credit limits.

Current outstanding balance. Do not subtract expected future forgiveness before it is applied.

The amount owed on the valuation date.

Vehicle, personal, and other outstanding debt not entered above.

Your position, in one currency

Assets minus liabilities.

A negative result means the debts you entered exceed the assets you entered. It is a financial position, not a score.

Expand the optional asset section for vehicles, bonds, business interests, and named holdings. Collapsed fields still count toward the total. Use one currency and count each holding only once.

Review the values before saving. This adds new holdings; it does not update existing ones. The journal records them in the current month.

How to calculate net worth

Add the current value of the assets you own, then subtract outstanding debt. Use one valuation date and one currency. For shared property, include your ownership share and your share of the loan separately.

The calculator accepts up to 1,000,000,000,000 per field. Totals retain up to three decimal places; the displayed currency may round them. It does not estimate tax, investment returns, or spending capacity.

For example, assets of 500,000 and liabilities of 200,000 give net worth of 300,000. Avoid counting both an account total and the investments inside it.

What happens to the numbers?

Entered values are not uploaded. Continuing passes a local draft to a review screen. Nothing is added to the journal until you confirm. The draft can remain in this tab’s navigation history; close the tab when you finish on a shared device.

A few calculation questions

What is the formula for net worth?

Net worth = total assets − total liabilities. Assets are things you own with financial value. Liabilities are amounts you owe. Use current values for the same date and currency.

Check what belongs in each total.

Should I include my home and mortgage?

For a broad personal balance sheet, include your ownership share of the home’s current estimated value. Include your share of the remaining mortgage separately as debt. Do not enter home equity and then subtract the mortgage again.

Should retirement accounts be included?

Current retirement account balances can count toward total net worth, even when access is restricted. Do not add projected future contributions or a promised future income as a current account balance. Liquid net worth uses a narrower asset set.

How often should I calculate net worth?

A monthly or quarterly checkpoint is a useful starting point for a long-term record. Choose a repeatable interval that helps you understand changes without constant monitoring. Compare recording intervals.

Is the calculator private?

Calculations run locally. Values are not sent to an analytics service or application server. They are not saved to the journal unless you continue and confirm. Clear the values or close the tab after use on a shared device. Hosting requests still reach Cloudflare.
